Can't we use alternatives to oil?

The ongoing oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico caused me, and I’m sure lots of others too, to ask if there are really lots of alternatives to oil that have just been hushed up by the big oil companies.

There have been lots of reports over the years about cars that can run on water, compressed air, hydrogen, liquid nitrogen and many other things too, but are any of them really feasible?

Biofuels don’t seem to be a feasible answer because farmers switching from food crops to sugar and starch crops caused food shortages which in turn caused the cost of certain foods to rise.

Are we still using oil because the big oil companies donate huge sums to politicians and because they buy and hide new patents, or would it really be that difficult to switch to a different energy source?

Should Prostitution Be Legal In Every State In The U.S. ?

American Power: Prostitution, Biology, Morality, and the Law

Frankly, prostitution's not something that seems clean and respectabe. Even if it was legal, I'd guess most self-esteeming people would have qualms about s**-trading simply on the basis of Judeo-Christain ethics.

Why is Prostitution Illegal, but Pornography is Not? « The Legal

Paying someone to have s** in a film requires us to determine whether the payment makes the otherwise-legal intercourse “prostitution” or not. The court started with the correct presumption — that the film was expressive

As of now, each state in the U.S. has the right to decide whether or not prostitution is legal in that state and in which part of that state, but it is illegal in every state with the exception of Nevada, and even there it is forbidden in many parts of the state.

Prostitution has existed for time immemorial and making it illegal won’t prevent it.

It’s legal in many first world countries, and prostitutes pay taxes and feel much safer.

I imagine that many Christians would object to legalizing prostitution but Jesus said things such as:

I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you (NIV).
Matthew 21:31

And examine Jesus’s own words closely.

HE said that the tax collectors and the prostitutes “are” entering the kingdom of God” and didn’t say, “will be” so there is no suggestion of repentance.

Surely decriminalization of prostitution would be good for all concerned except for pimps who inflict violence and extort money, and a percentage of the money not extorted by them would be used for paying taxes which is something that the country is desperately short of right now.
