When an American thinks of advertising, he or she most likely calls to mind Madison Avenue, because for decades it’s caused people to buy useless products that they don’t need, and perhaps can’t even afford.
Toilet cleaners that only seem to come in one color, blue?!
What are they for when one can’t even see if the bowl is clean or dirty because of the blue water?
They sterilize?!
Sterilize what?
A person’s “pee pee” or “s***”.
Give me a break; you won’t catch anything from using a toilet that somebody else just used, and if there were something then the blue junk wouldn’t protect you.
Many young female teenagers are now seriously underweight because they see anorexic models everywhere, etc. etc.
In short, how much does advertising influence our decisions, and if it does so in an overly extreme way, then can we, or should we do something to control, if not prevent it?
