Is There Such A Thing As A Coincidence?

Coincidences don't just happen – they are made to happen by your subconscious mind. Science and its Quantum physics in this regard have showed us that at the sub atomic level there is no existence of matter and it is energy that exists everywhere at that level. It also says that the presence of the energy is solely because of the observer which thus proves that mind being the observer is immensely powerful and can do magnificent things. Scientists now belief that

So you should consider coincidences; in fact Tommaso already discussed in some blog posts. So the paper is just this, to report on the existence of this SU(5) symmetry that seems very much as a composite of five quarks.

Is there such a thing as a coincidence!

I have to say right up front that I don’t believe in coincidences.

Well not when the word is deemed to mean, “a chance occurrence” anyway.

I have had so many so called “chance occurrences” occur in my life and they continue to do so, and they are still ongoing.

A simple one just to give an example.

I used the same coffee mug for 4 years until one morning I broke it and I decided that I’d buy a new one later that morning.

Before going to buy it I decided to stop at a small store similar to a 711 and pick up a few things.

Whilst standing in line a man approached me and asked if I’d like a present and I said ‘Sure’ and he reached into his bag and pulled a coffee mug.

I’d never seen the man before and haven’t seen him since and hadn’t told anybody that I needed to buy a mug.

I was over sixty years old at the time and nobody had ever given me a cup or mug before and this happened within an hour of breaking mine and deciding to buy a new one.

And the man was a complete stranger.

The odds on this happening would be billions to one and I’ve had several similar experiences.

A coincidence? I don’t think so!

    Michael,

just so I can better understand where this is going, would you please tell me what you think or believe is happening when so called “coincidences” happen to people. Thanks.

    Hi no-shmuck,

I’m happy to explain and glad that you asked.

I attended a lecture about 20 years ago that was given by a female Buddhist monk.

Seems odd that we don’t have an English word for a female monk when I’m obviously not talking about a nun.

Anyway, somebody asked her the aim of Zen discipline and/or what’s its adherents were trying to achieve.

She asked us to think about how difficult it might be to cross a crowded NY street during the rush hour.

She then asked us to consider how the street would look if we were standing on the second or third floor of a building.

She finally asked us to imagine being on the 100th floor of a building.

We all agreed that it would be much easier to cross since we’d see the street from a totally different perspective and be able to see a pattern in the traffic.

She said that the goal of Zen was to see life’s pattern from as high a perspective as possible.

But added that after getting the insight that it was necessary to return to the ground floor, whilst never forgetting that there is a pattern and that life is not random.

I obviously never forgot her lesson and when “coincidences” happen I always remember that life is not random and that there is a pattern.

So what are the odds on this one happening?

In 1899 a bolt of lightning killed a man as he stood in his backyard in Taranto, Italy.

Thirty years later his son was killed in the same way and in the same place.

On October 8, 1949, Rolla Primarda, the grandson of the first victim and the son of the second, became the third.

Really makes you feel that when your time has come, that your time has come!

  • jive-a** says:

    Talking about lightning ..

A British officer, by the name of Major Summerford, was knocked off his horse by lightning and was paralyzed from the waist down while fighting in the fields of Flanders in February 1918.

Summerford retired and moved to Vancouver, but one day in 1924, while he was fishing in a river a lightning hit the tree that he was sitting under and paralyzed his right side.

And that’s not all, two years later Summerford was sufficiently recovered that he was able to take walks in a local park, but when he was walking there in the 1930 a lightning bolt hit him.

It permanently paralyzed him and he died two years later.

    Now For The Big One!

Four years later, during a storm, lightning struck a cemetery and destroyed a tombstone.

    Whose tombstone?

None other than Major Summerford’s tombstone!

  • Michael Redbourn says:

I don’t have any personal experiences that are similar to the lightning ones, but I have several that are pretty amazing.

My daughter and I met in Israel last month and my daughter hadn’t been in Israel for 9 years.

One day we took a short trip to the Dead Sea and she hadn’t been there for perhaps 25 years.

Somebody gave us a pass to a luxury hotel, and we arrived early to arrive the midday heat.

There was hardly anybody on the beach and only one person in the water.

My daughter and I waded out and chatted, when suddenly a voice rang out, “Is that you Michael?”.

I answered “Yes” but had no idea who the women in the water was.

The woman was a friend of my ex-wife and she had stayed in our apartment in Los Angeles over twenty five years ago.

I obviously have changed much ;-)

    Just kidding.

The woman lives in Tel Aviv and had only come to the hotel for a 2 day visit and my daughter and I only spent about two hours at the Dead Sea in total.

The woman was very pleased and said that she would contact my ex and mention that her daughter looked well and happy.

No one knew that we go to the Dead Sea that day, or at all, (we only decide the evening before) and there are dozens of hotels at the Dead Sea, and we only got the free pass to the luxury hotel the night before, otherwise we would have gone to a public beach.

    A coincidence?

These things happen to people all the time, but most are simply not aware of them because they are so wrapped up in their day to day soaps, or mini-dramas.

I once had a similar experience to this one ..

In 1973, the actor Anthony Hopkins agreed to appear in “The Girl From Petrovka”, based on a novel by George Feifer but he was unable to find a copy of the book anywhere in London.

Later however, Hopkins was surprised to discover a copy lying on a bench in a train station.

The book was George Feifer’s own annotated (personal) copy, which Feifer had lent to a friend, and which had been stolen from the friend’s car.

    What was my similar experience?

I read a book by Shakti Gawain in Los Angeles just before flying out to Hawaii on vacation.

I tried in all the local book shops to try and buy a copy of her follow up book but none of them had it in stock.

A couple of days later in Hawaii I went into a small gift shop and to my amazement found a copy of the book that I’d looked for in LA

    By my surprise only grew!

When I went to the cash desk to pay for the book, the person behind the counter said, “We don’t sell books”.

I asked what I was supposed to do with the book and was told, “Take it for free. You found it and can’t pay for it here”.

How about this for a coincidence?

“My son had just told us that he had qualified as a Chartered Accountant, which takes quite a few years work here in the UK. I was, of course, chuffed to bits about this and, after talking about it with my wife, I went upstairs to our bedroom.

I wanted to get something or other out of my wardrobe and, for some reason, I was wondering what my father, now deceased, would have thought about my son’s success. As I reached into the wardrobe a small bag fell out.

The bag just happened to be one in which I kept a few of my dad’s possessions. Nothing of value but they all mean something to me: his old watch, cigarette case, penknife, wedding ring, darts, a tie and a few other trinkets all full of memories.

I then looked at the watch. Dad was always one for punctuality and often asked, “Do you know what time it is?” when I was a teenager either arriving home at night or getting up late in the morning. Then I noticed the time where the hands of the watch had stopped and have remained ever since.

The time on the watch was exactly the time that my son had been born (3.20pm).

Perhaps I was in an emotional state but this really hit me. It was as if it was a message from my father saying he knew all about his grandson.

Okay, this may sound very fanciful but what are the odds of the watch stopping exactly at the time of my son’s birth?

Plus the bag fell out of the wardrobe by itself”‘.

The US is no longer a nation under God, not under one God anyway!

    Telepathy, coincidence or both?

I met a lady outside my local supermarket about two months ago and we talked for around 15-minutes.

She was old, but in excellent health. was visiting from the UK and had just got back from S. Africa.

She told me that she wanted to make a film based on her now deceased husband’s book, and I told her that I might be able to help her, and gave her my visiting card.

    Jump forward two months.

I visit the supermarket every couple of days and never gave the above encounter another thought until yesterday.

Yesterday as I left the market, I stopped and looked around, sort of scanning the horizon and wondered what happened to the lady that I’d met, who’d never contacted me.

Fifteen minutes later I checked my email and guess who there was an email from?

“Dear Michael, we met outside a supermarket a couple of months ago and you gave me your card …”

    How about this?

You’re thinking of buying an electric razor but don’t know which type to buy.

You call a friend in another country (in this case the UK) and you ask him which type he’d recommend.

He suggests that since you’ll be visiting in a few weeks time that you wait and try out a couple of his razors before buying one.

You haven’t told anybody else that you’re thinking of buying an electric razor.

A few days later when walking past a local place that sells beer and coffee etc you are suprised when the owner calls out and asks you to come in.

    You know him.

You go in, and he asks you if you’d like an electric razor.

Recovering from the suprise you say, “well yes, and thanks”.

It wasn’t new but you’re still using it a year later.

    A coincidence?
