Were Republicans Or Democrats Best For The US Economy?

Bulls, Bears and the Ballot Box

bulls bears and the ballot box

I’d like to preface what you’re going to read below by saying that I always voted Republican in the US and for Right Wing Parties In Israel.

So I was therefore very surprised and somewhat shocked to read the highly impressive research in a book entitled, "Bulls, Bears And The Ballot Box"

The book looks at which US Presidents were historically best for the US economy.

Republicans Are Good For Business?

The most common viewpoint is that Republicans are good for business, which in turn is good for the economy.

Republican philosophy dictates that less restrictions lead to greater growth, and an expanding economy.

Democrats Are Economy Killers?

Meanwhile, the common view of Democrat policies is that they too heavily favor regulation and higher taxes, which are economy killers.

Which President Was Best For The US Economy?

Which President was best for the US economy?

A knee-jerk Republican response would probably rate Ronald Reagan as top-dog, but businesses actually flourished most under New Deal-creating, ultra-lefty Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

During Roosevelt’s tenure, corporate profits and industrial production grew at a significantly faster rate than during any other administration.

Reagan actually ranks the third best president for businesses, tied with Bill Clinton.

America’s Big Spenders

The biggest spenders were John F. Kenney and Lyndon Johnson, and they had.

No change in income inequality.

The second-fewest number of recessionary months.

The healthiest level of national debt.

Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford’s administrations were lumped together.

Were Republicans Or Democrats Best For The US Economy?

Some surprising stats in the book!

Personal disposable income grew almost six times more under Democratic presidents
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew seven times more under Democratic presidents
Corporate profits grew over 16% more per year under Democratic presidents
They actually declined under Republicans by an average of 4.53%/year
Average annual compound return on the stock market was 18 times greater under Democratic presidents
If you invested $100k for 40 years of Republican administrations you had $126k at the end, but if you invested $100k for 40 years of Democrat administrations you had $3.9M at the end.
Republican presidents added 2.5 times more to the national debt than Democratic presidents
The two times the US economy almost collapsed were during the Great Depression and Great Recession, which both happened under Republican administrations.

Your opinions please!

I am not saying that everything in the book is correct, but I do believe that its contents need to be looked at and examined in an unbiased way.

So regardless of whether of you agree or disagree, please post in our comments section.

One Response to Were Republicans Or Democrats Best For The US Economy?

  1. Miss Skeptic says:

All I know is that I thought Kennedy and Clinton ran a pretty good government! the US were doing quite well during their time. Both were different. I lived in the States from 1963-65 then again from 1983-2000. The 60’s were good. Surely many things come into the picture – the world has changed so much, many more countries are involved with each other – many more people from different cultures and views now live in the USA – this matters especially if they have managed to join the government ranks and helping to change policies etc.,.
