Have you ever seen a baby pigeon?

Are Pigeons Just Born Big?

I live in a big city and there are pigeons everywhere and they’ll really becoming a nuisance, but I’ve never seen young pigeons.

If you can’t find the young ones then how are you going to get rid of the big ones and stop them breeding?

Or are they just born big, which might kind of prove Darwin’s theory of evolution?

So what do you think? Have you ever seen one?

Urban pigeons are related to Rock Pigeons (also known as Rock Doves), and Rock Pigeons live and breed on cliff faces far out of reach of predators.

Since there are no cliffs in towns and cities, urban pigeons dwell for the most part in high-rise buildings and then make their nests in them.

The parents take it in turns to look after the fledglings and the babies are in no hurry to leave their nests because of the high altitudes where they’re located.

It only takes a few weeks until a baby pigeon has a full set of feathers after which it’s referred to as ‘fully fledged’ and once it reaches that stage it is almost indistinguishable from a full grown pigeon.

It joins the flock and mixes in with the adults and that’s why you don’t see any obvious baby pigeons.

aren’t the grey ones that look older than their parents the young ones

bit like gulls

survival of the fattest and all that?

At least I found out how they they teach their young the important things in life.

You don’t see many baby pigeons because they don’t leave the nest until they are fairly large. Their nests are very well hidden too.
